[Source] Medicinal material source: The bulb of the Amaryllis plant of the Amaryllis family.

[Original form] Sudixiao is a perennial herb. The bulb is enlarged, nearly oval, about 5cm in diameter, and covered with dark brown bulb skin. Leaves appear in autumn, basal; leaves are thick, broad and linear, about 60 cm long, 2.5 cm at the widest point, gradually narrowing towards the base, about 1.7 cm wide, gradually pointed at the tip, shiny yellow-green above, gray-green below, midrib concave above, convex below. The veins and base of the leaves are purple-red. Flowers come before leaves; pedicel 30-60cm high, with 2 lanceolate bracts, about 3.5cm long and 8mm wide; umbel with 4-8 flowers, relatively large, yellow or orange, slightly bilaterally symmetrical; tepals 6, obovate, about 6cm long, 1cm wide, with light green cingulates on the back, strongly curled and wrinkled; tepals about 1.2-1.5cm long, with petioles; 6 stamens, extending out of the tepals together with the style, with yellow filaments; the upper part of the style is rose-red, the ovary is inferior, and has 3 chambers. The capsule has 3 edges and the chambers are split; there are a few seeds, which are nearly spherical, about 7mm in diameter, and black. The flowering period is August-September, and the fruiting period is October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in fertile soil on moist hillsides, on rocks and under cliffs.

【Cultivation】 1. Biological characteristics: strong adaptability and relatively cold-resistant. In nature, it often grows wild in relatively moist and well-drained places such as gentle slopes, forest edges, and stream banks. It has the habit of summer dormancy and is not picky about soil, but prefers humus-rich soil and a moist and well-drained environment.

[Chemical composition] The bulb contains lycorine, lycre-nine, galanthamine, pseudolycorine, homolycorine, tazettine and lyco-ramine. The stems contain galantamine and lycorine.
