[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole plant of Yunnan wild fan flower, a plant of the Buxaceae family.

[Original form] Yunnan wild fan flower is an evergreen shrub, about 3m tall. Branchlets obliquely ascending, cylindrical, zigzag, ridged, glabrous. Simple leaves are alternate; petioles are 0.8-2cm long; leaf blades are thin leathery, elliptical, oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate, 6-12cm long, 2-5cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, rounded or broadly cuneate at the base, bright green above, light green below, glabrous on both sides; midrib is convex on both sides, and the lowest pair of lateral veins rise from 2-5mm away from the leaf base, forming obvious three-veined veins away from the base. Flowers are unisexual, monoecious, inflorescence is nearly capitate or short spike, often longer at the top, 1-2cm long; bracts are ovate-lanceolate; flowers are white and fragrant; 3-10 male flowers, occupying most of the inflorescence axis, 2-3 female flowers, born near the base of the inflorescence axis; male flowers are pedunculate and without bracts, or the male flowers below have peduncles and 2 bracts, 2 terminal sessile male flowers, sepals are usually 4, ovate; 4-5 pairs of bracts on the female pedicel, bracts are broadly ovate to ovate-lanceolate, sepals are 4-6. The drupe is nearly spherical or elliptical, up to 1 cm long, with 3-2 styles, curled outwards, and a fruit stalk about 1 cm long. The flowering and fruiting period is from October to December, or until March of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in moist places under forests or in valleys on hillsides at an altitude of 1300-2700m. Distributed in Yunnan.

【Cultivation】 Biological characteristics: It prefers mild and cool climate. Afraid of high temperature, resistant to severe cold. Suitable for cultivation in areas with an altitude of 400-2300m. When introduced to the low-altitude areas of the southern subtropical region, it grows slowly and cannot bloom and bear fruit. It is best to plant it in loose, moist, well-drained loam rich in humus.

【Nature and flavor】 Pungent; Bitter; Neutral

【Functions and indications】Promote blood circulation and qi circulation; reduce swelling and relieve pain. Mainly used for stomach pain, traumatic injury, and unknown swelling

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount, soak in wine and apply on the affected area; or grind into powder and apply on the affected area.
