【English Name】 Thick-leaf Holly Fern

[Source] Medicinal material source: The rhizome of the Dryopteris cyrtonema, a plant of the Dryopteris family.

【Original form】Plant height 50-70cm. The rhizome is short and obliquely ascending, and together with the base of the petiole, is densely covered with large reddish-brown, narrowly lanceolate scales, nearly entire. Leaves are clustered; petioles are 35-45cm long, black and hard at the base, sparsely covered with light brown, fibrous scales upwards; leaf blades are thick leathery, broadly ovate, 15-25cm long, about 20cm wide, odd-pinnate, with the terminal pinna longer than wide, short and gradually pointed; lateral pinnae are 3-5 pairs, opposite, spreading obliquely upwards, 4-5cm long, 2.5-3cm wide in the middle, ovate to oblong, with sharp apex, nearly cordate base, entire margin, only the rachis is covered with very few fibrous scales; leaf veins are not obvious, with several rows of small meshes on each side of the midrib. The sori are small, brown and round; the sori cap is large and nearly entire.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing under forests or on rocks on hillsides at an altitude of 350-1500m.
