Daylily seeds are a famous traditional and commonly used Chinese medicinal material in my country with a long history of application. Today we will learn about daylily seeds. [Source] Medicinal material source: The seeds of Cleome viscoa L., a plant of the Caprifoliaceae family. [Original morphology] Daylily is an annual upright herb, 0.3-1m tall. The whole plant is densely covered with sticky glandular hairs and light yellow soft hairs, and has a foul odor. The leaves are palmately compound with 3-5 (-7) leaflets; the petiole is 2-4 cm long; the leaflets are oblanceolate-elliptic, the central leaflet is 1-5 cm long and 5-15 mm wide, the lateral leaflets are gradually smaller, and the edges have glandular cilia. The flowers are solitary in the leaf gum, gradually becoming smaller in the upper part of the stem, but forming a racemose or corymbose inflorescence near the top, with slender pedicels, 1-2 cm long; sepals are narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate-elliptic, 6-7 mm long, 1-3 mm wide, with fine stripes, and mucous glandular hairs on the back and edges; petals are light yellow or orange-yellow, obovate or spatulate, 7-12 mm long, 3-5 mm wide, and cuneate to more or less clawed at the base; stamens 10-20, filaments shorter than petals, not exposed outside the corolla during flowering; ovary sessile, cylindrical, about 8 mm long, densely covered with glandular hairs except for style and stigma, which are also not exposed during flowering, the top of the ovary becomes narrow and elongated, the flower is 2-6 nuns long, and the stigma is capitate. The fruit is erect, cylindrical, densely covered with glandular hairs, and 6-9cm long. The middle diameter is about 1-2 mm. When mature, the petals are white and split downward at the tip. The surface has multiple more or less concentric, curved longitudinal parallel raised ridges. The persistent flower branches are about 5 mm long. The seeds are dark brown, 1-15 mm in diameter, with about 30 transverse parallel wrinkles on the surface. There is no obvious flowering and fruiting period. Seedlings usually emerge in March and fruits ripen in July. 【Habitat distribution】Ecological environment: grown in fields and wastelands. 【Chemical composition】 The seeds contain clasandrin, cleomiscosin A, B, and D, fraxetin, stigmasta-5, 24(28)-diene-3β-O-α-L-rhamnoside, glucocapparin, and glucocleomin. It also contains 18.3% seed oil, of which 51.01% is linoleic acid, 18.14% is linolenic acid, 17.5% is stearic acid, 7.01% is oleic acid and 6.80% is palmitic acid. The seeds also contain sucrose. [Pharmacological Action] A study on the food safety of eight types of vegetable oils that are not generally used as edible oils was conducted. The results of the Ames test showed that daylily oil has no mutagenic effect. 【Functions and indications】 Deworming and eliminating malnutrition.
