[Source] It is the whole herb of the sessile Scutellaria baicalensis of the Lamiaceae family.

[Original morphology] Erect herb. The stem is square, purple, and 25 to 35 cm high. Leaves are opposite; triangular-ovate, basal leaves are kidney-shaped, 0.7-2.3 cm long, 0.8-1.6 cm wide, obtuse at the apex, heart-shaped at the base, with wavy serrations on the edges, smooth and hairless on both sides, dark green above, gray-green below; almost sessile. Flowers grow in leaf axils; calyx is bell-shaped, 2-lipped, with short and broad lips, entire, closed after flowering, and with enlarged scales on the back of the upper lip, which fall off when fruiting; corolla tube is long and prominent, white, purple near calyx; 4 stamens, anthers are hairy; 1 pistil, ovary is deeply 4-lobed, and style is attached at the base. The nutlets are nearly spherical, flat-pressed, and slightly hairy. Flowering period is July.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.6-1 liang. For external use: mash and apply.
