[Source] Medicinal material source: the root, rhizome or whole herb of Asarum sieboldii of the Aristolochiaceae family.

[Original morphology] Asarum sieboldii is a perennial herb with scattered soft hairs all over the plant. The rhizome runs horizontally. Petiole 3-15cm long, densely covered with yellow-brown soft hairs; bud leaf ovate or oblong ovate, densely covered with soft hairs; leaf round-cordate, ovate-cordate or broadly ovate, 5-10cm long, 5.5-12.5cm wide, obtuse or acute at apex, cordate at base, scattered with short hairs or glabrous on the upper side, initially covered with densely covered with yellow-brown soft hairs on the lower side. Flowers purple; pedicels 5-15mm long, hairy; tepals fused to ovary spherical or ovate, tepal tube short, with narrow convex ring above middle and at same height as style; tepals lobes ovate, light green, with densely purple dotted hairs on surface, golden yellow edges (purple after drying), hairy on both sides; stamen filaments slightly shorter than anthers, connectives protruding, cone-shaped or tongue-shaped; ovary inferior, hairy, style shorter than stamens, 6-lobed at apex, stigma terminal, extending outward and downward into a linear shape. Capsule ovoid, about 12mm in diameter. Flowering period is from April to June.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows under forests or in valley wetlands.

【Properties】 Identification of properties: The rhizome is relatively short, with a diameter of 1-3mm and an internode length of 0.3-1.3cm; the wrinkles are fine and dense. The roots are slender and yellow. The leaves are circular, ovate-cordate or broadly ovate when flattened, 5-10cm long, 5.5-12.5cm wide, obtuse or acute at the apex, cordate at the base, some with hair on the upper side and densely covered with yellow-brown soft hairs on the lower side; the petiole is 3-15cm long and densely covered with yellow-brown hairs.
