[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of the Gramineae plant Eragrostis edulis.

[Original form] Eragrostis ovata is an annual herb. The culm is stout, 30-90cm high, 3-5mm in diameter, erect and clustered, often knee-curved at the base, with 3-5 nodes, and an obvious gland under the node. The leaf sheath is loosely wrapped around the stem, with glands on the veins and long soft hairs on the sheath mouth; the ligule is a circle of short hairs in bundles, about 0.5mm long; the leaf blade is linear and flat, stretched, 6-20cm long, 2-6mm wide, glabrous, with glands on the veins and leaf margins. Spikelets are oblong or spire-shaped, 5-20cm long, with strong branches, solitary, upward, with soft hairs between cells, and glands on twigs and spikelet stalks; spikelets are oblong or ovate-oblong, dark green with light green or yellowish brown, flattened and curved, 5-20mm long; 2-3mm wide, with 10-40 florets, and spikelets are often densely clustered except for solitary ones; glumes are nearly equal in length, about 2mm long, with 1 vein in the glumes or 3 veins in the second glumes, and glands on the ridges; lemmas are broadly ovate, with obtuse red ends, the first lemma is about 2.5mm long and 1mm wide, with obvious lateral veins, and the main vein has glands, dark green and shiny, with inner peristome, slightly shorter than the lemma, with short cilia on the ridges; stamens 3, anthers 0.5mm long. The caryopsis is nearly round, with a diameter of about 0.7mm. Flowering and fruiting period is from July to October.

【Functions and indications】Diuretic and relieving stranguria; dispelling wind and clearing away heat. Mainly used for heat stranguria; stranguria with stones; red and itchy eyes

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g; fresh product 60-120g. For external use: take appropriate amount and wash with decoction.
