[Source] Medicinal material source: The fruits of Acer truncatum and Acer guilinensis, plants of the Aceraceae family.

[Original form] 1. Acer truncatum is an evergreen tree, up to 10m tall. The bark is gray-brown or gray-black; the twigs are cylindrical, glabrous, the branches of the current year are purple-green or green, and the perennial branches are green or green-brown. Simple leaves are opposite; petiole is 1-1.5cm long, glabrous; leaf blade is leathery, lanceolate, oblong-lanceolate or oblong-oblanceolate, 7-11cm long, 2-3cm wide, entire, apex acute or shortly acute, base cuneate or obtuse; dark green above, light green below, glabrous or with sparse tufts of hairs in vein axils; main vein is prominent above, convex below, with 4-5 pairs of lateral veins. Flowers are polygamous, with male and bisexual flowers on the same plant, purple corymbs; 5 sepals, purple, slightly pubescent; 5 petals, white, slightly shorter than sepals; 8 stamens; ovary glabrous, style short, stigma spreading; samaras are purple when young, yellowish brown or light brown when ripe; wings and nutlets are 3-3.4cm long, 8-10mm wide, open at an obtuse angle, fruit stalk is 1-1.5cm long, glabrous. The flowering period is March-April, and the fruiting period is September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: 1. Growing in sparse mountain forests at an altitude of 500-1800m.

[Properties] The fruit is identified as a single-seeded fruit with one end of the pericarp extending outward into a wing-like shape. It is flat and spoon-shaped, 25-30mm long and 6-10mm wide, yellowish brown or light brown. Occasionally, two winged fruits are seen side by side on a slender fruit stalk, opening into an obtuse angle, resembling butterfly wings. The nutlets are convex, ovate, and about 4 mm in diameter. After being crushed, it has a faint smell and a slightly bitter taste.
