[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb or root of the plant Caulis Sophorae Flavescentis of the grape family.

[Original form] A herbaceous vine of the Rhizoma Cynoglossi. The stem has longitudinal stripes; the tendrils are slender and branched; the young parts and twigs are covered with gray or light gray short soft hairs. Bird-toed compound leaves, with 5 leaflets; with long petioles, petioles covered with gray or light gray short soft hairs; leaf blades membranous, lanceolate to obovate-oblong, 2.5-7cm long, with acute or obtuse apex, sharp serrations on the edges, and densely covered with gray or light gray short soft hairs on the back; the middle petiole is the longest, and the lateral ones are shorter. The flowers are bisexual, with axillary or pseudo-axillary cymes and long peduncles; the flowers are small, yellow-green, and short-stalked; the calyx is cup-shaped; the corolla does not expand, with 4 petals; there are 4 stamens, opposite the petals, and the anthers are nearly round. The berries are spherical, green, and shiny black when ripe. There are 2-4 seeds, which are ovate-triangular and have 2 deep grooves on the back. The flowering period is summer and the fruiting period is autumn.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in sparse woods in valleys.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; Cold

【Functions and indications】 Clears the liver and improves eyesight; cools blood and eliminates carbuncle; disperses blood stasis and relieves pain. It is used to treat red and swollen eyes, lung abscess, hematuria, traumatic injury, and burns.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 15-30g, double the amount for fresh product. For external use: take appropriate amount, mash or grind into powder for application.
