Flowers are unisexual, monoecious or rarely dioecious; one female inflorescence and several male inflorescences are long and drooping, forming a terminal panicle bundle; the female inflorescence is at the top and the male inflorescence is below, or the male and female inflorescences are separated and the female inflorescence is alone at the terminal; the bracts of both female and male flowers are 3-lobed, with 4 tepals, the male flowers are sessile or nearly sessile, with 10-12 stamens and almost no filaments; the female flowers have a pedicel about 1-3mm long, the tepals are attached to the ovary, there is no style, and the stigma is 4-lobed and slightly rolled outward. The infructescence is 15-25cm long. The fruit is spherical or oblate, nut-shaped, about 4mm in diameter, densely covered with yellow-brown glands, the exocarp is membranous, the endocarp is bony, the bracts are supported at the base of the fruit, forming a membranous fruit wing, and the middle fruit wing lobe is 3-5cm long, about twice the length of the lobes on both sides. The flowering period is May-June, and the fruiting period is August-September. [Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in drier sparse woods on hillsides at an altitude of 200-1500m. It is drought- and barren-resistant and is a common tree species in secondary forests.
