[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Saussurea chrysantha, a plant of the Asteraceae family.

[Original form] Saussurea ovata is a perennial herb, 30-60cm tall. With short rhizomes; aboveground stems glabrous. Leaves are alternate; linear-oblong, rarely linear-lanceolate, 3-10cm long, 1-2cm wide, with long acuminate tips and base gradually narrowed into deeply cordate ears, semi-amplexicaulous, with long pointed and dense teeth on the margin, covered with rough short hairs above and glandular below; upper leaves are smaller, with no obvious ears at the base; all leaves have no petioles. Inflorescence capitulate, numerous, with short stalks, densely packed into corymbs at the stem end; bracts are shaped, about 10mm long, covered with locust-like hairs on the outside, the upper part and edges of the bracts are black, and except for the innermost layer, all have long drill-shaped appendages at the tip; tubular pollen flowers are purple, 10-11mm long. Achenes are 3-4mm long, with dirty white pappus, rough hairy outer layer and feathery inner layer. Flowering period is August-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on high mountain grass slopes at an altitude of 2600-4000m.

[Chemical composition] The whole herb contains 21 trace elements, including magnesium (Mg), chromium (Cr), silicon (Si), phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), strontium (Sr), arsenic (As), etc.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; neutral

【Functions and indications】Reduce swelling and relieve pain; disperse blood stasis and stop bleeding. Mainly used for lochia, lower abdominal pain, hematuria, bloody stool, traumatic injury, bleeding from knife wounds

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 5-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash fresh product for application.
