[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of the plant Rhizoma Cyperi of the Melastomataceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb. The underground stem is about 1 cm long and has obvious leaf scars. Stems very short, sometimes in 2-3 pairs. Leaves are opposite; petioles are 4-8cm long, strong, and sometimes winged; leaf blades are papery, elliptical, 10-22cm long, 7-15cm wide, obtuse or slightly concave at the apex, cordate or obtuse at the base, entire or occasionally with very inconspicuous sparse fine teeth, leaf surface covered with very sparse short prickles, back covered with chaff, leaf veins covered with very sparse short prickles, 7-9 basal veins. The inflorescence is umbel or composed of obtuse inflorescences with only one pair of branches, terminal, with peduncle, pedicel and calyx covered with chaff and sparse glandular hairs; the pedicel is about 1 cm long and quadrangular; the flowers are 4-parted, the calyx is funnel-shaped, quadrangular, about 5 mm long, with small, serrated, and inconspicuous lobes; the petals are pink, red to purple-red, oblong-ovate, slightly oblique, acuminate at the apex, about 10 mm long and 5 mm wide; there are 8 stamens, 4 of which are degenerate, the fertile stamens are 13 mm long, the anthers are about 7 mm long, without tubercles at the base, and the connective extends downward into a short spur; the ovary is inferior, ovate, with a membranous crown at the apex and finely ciliated crown margin. The capsule is cup-shaped, with a flat tip, and is covered by a persistent calyx. The persistent calyx is about 6 mm long, 4 mm wide, quadrangular, with narrow wings on the ridges, and covered with glandular hairs. The flowering period is from September to November, and the fruiting period is from January to March of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown on soil slopes at an altitude of 200-2000m, under sparse forests in valleys, and on wet soil on rocks.
