[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of Sterculia nobilis Smith, a plant of the Sterculaceae family.

[Original form] Sterculia serrata is a tree, up to 10m tall. The bark is dark brown, and the twigs are slightly covered with stellate hairs when young. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 2-3.5cm long; leaf blade is thin leathery, oblong or elliptical, 8-25cm long, 5-15cm wide, with acute or obtuse apex, rounded or obtuse base, and glabrous on both sides. The panicles are terminal or axillary, scattered, up to 20 cm long, with short soft hairs; the flowers are unisexual and without corolla; the calyx is light pink, bell-shaped, with short soft hairs on the outside, 5-lobed, the lobes are linear-lanceolate, gradually pointed and curved inwards, glued to each other at the apex, and the same length as the campanulate calyx tube; there are more male flowers, the androgynophores are curved, glabrous, and the anthers are yellow; there are fewer female flowers, slightly larger, the ovary is spherical, with 5 grooves, densely covered with hairs, the style is curved, and the stigma is 5-lobed. The follicles are bright red, thick and leathery, oblong-ovate, about 5 cm long and 2-3 cm wide, with a beak at the tip, and each fruit contains 1-4 seeds. The seeds are oval or oblong, dark brown, and about 1.5 cm in diameter. The flowering period is from April to May, but a few plants can often bloom for the second time in October and November.
