[Source] This product is the dried mother root of Aconitum carmichaeli Debx., a plant of the Ranunculaceae family. Dig up from late June to early August, remove the sub-roots, fibrous roots and mud and sand, and dry in the sun.

[Properties] This product is irregularly conical, slightly curved, with a residual stem at the top and the middle part mostly swollen to one side, 2 to 7.5 cm long and 1.2 to 2.5 cm in diameter. The surface is brown or gray-brown, wrinkled, and has small tubercle-like lateral roots and traces of detached sub-roots. It is solid in texture, white or light grayish yellow in cross section, and has polygonal cambium rings. Slight smell, spicy and tongue-numbing taste.

【Identification】 (1) Cross section of this product: The metacortex is brown cork cells; stone cells are occasionally seen in the cortical parenchyma, which are scattered alone or in groups, and are rectangular, square or oblong, with a large cell cavity; the endodermis is not very obvious. There are scattered sieve tube groups in the phloem; fiber bundles are occasionally seen on the inner side. The formation layer is polygonal. There are occasionally one or several heteromorphic vascular bundles on the inner and outer sides. The xylem vessels are arranged in multiple rows, radially or in a slightly V-shape. The medulla is obvious. The thin-walled cells are filled with starch granules.
