White-backed poplar is a relatively familiar traditional Chinese medicine. It has many benefits for our body. If we want to consume it correctly in our lives, we need to have some understanding of white-backed poplar. Let’s take a look at it below. [Source] The leaves of Populus alba, a plant of the Salicaceae family. Harvested in spring and summer. [Original form] Tree, 10 to 35 meters high. Young branches are densely covered with white hairs; winter buds are conical, with white hairs, or only with fine hairs on the edges. Simple leaves are alternate, and the shapes of leaves on long and short branches are significantly different: the leaves on long branches are broadly ovate or triangular ovate, 5-12 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, with acute apex, rounded or nearly cordate base, 3-5 palmately fissured or unfissured, with blunt teeth, densely covered with white hairs on both sides when young, the hairs on the upper sides fall off later, while the hairs on the lower sides do not; the leaves on short branches are smaller, ovate or elliptical-ovate; the petiole is 2-5 cm long and covered with white hairs. The male inflorescence is 3 to 7 cm long; the bracts have long eyelashes; the stamens are 6 to 10; the female inflorescence is 2 to 4 cm long; the stigma is 2, 2-lobed, and red. Capsule, glabrous. 【Habitat distribution】Grows on hillsides. Distributed in Northeast China, North China, Northwest China and Guangxi. [Chemical composition] The leaves and bark contain small amounts of glycosides. The roots contain 7-ο-methyl citrus aurantium. 【Functions and indications】Expectorant, anti-inflammatory, antiasthmatic and antitussive. Treat chronic bronchitis, cough and asthma. [Clinical Application] Treatment of chronic bronchitis: Different dosage forms of Populus alba leaves were made and observed in 1,115 cases in different seasons. The average effective rate was about 88%, and the significant effective rate was about 52%. It is effective for cough, phlegm and asthma, but its anti-asthmatic effect is slightly weaker; the effect time is usually 3 to 5 days after taking the medicine. It has better effect on deficiency-cold type, followed by dryness of lung type, and worse on phlegm-heat type. The treatment is more effective for older patients. The shorter the course of illness, the better the efficacy. Dosage form and usage: 1. Take 1:2 syrup 3 times a day, 10 ml each time. ㈡ Injection - intramuscular injection, once a day, 1 ml each time (containing 2 grams of crude drug). ㈢ Extract pills: 10 pills each time, 3 times a day (the total daily amount is equivalent to 25 grams of raw medicine); in some cases, injection or herbaceous basil can be used at the same time (5 cents each time, take in 3 times after brewing). Preliminary observations showed no significant difference in the efficacy of various dosage forms. Side effects: There are no serious side effects. Only a few patients have stomach discomfort, dry mouth, diarrhea, mild facial edema, and some have rashes.
