[Source] It is Euphorbia hirta L., a plant of the genus Euphorbia in the Euphorbiaceae family. The whole plant is used as medicine. Collect in summer and autumn, wash and dry.

[Original form] Annual herb, 20 to 50 cm tall, with latex all over the body. The stem base is geniculate and obliquely ascending, single or tufted at the base, covered with coarse hairs, denser hairs at the top, unbranched or slightly branched at the bottom. Simple leaves are opposite with short petioles; leaf blades are lanceolate-oblong or oblong-ovate, 1-3 cm long, 0.5-1.3 cm wide, with acute or obtuse apex, oblique and asymmetrical base, serrated margins, rarely entire, hairy on both sides, denser hairs on the underside and along the veins; stipules are membranous, lanceolate or strip-lanceolate, with bristle-like, torn and caducous margins. Small light green or purple flowers bloom in summer, and most of the cup-shaped cymes are arranged in dense axillary capitula; the involucre is broadly bell-shaped, densely covered with short soft hairs on the outside, and 4-lobed at the top; there are 4 glands, funnel-shaped, with short stalks and petal-like appendages. Aralia ovate-triangular, appressed pubescent.

[Habitat distribution] It grows on sunny slopes, valleys, roadsides or under jungles, mostly on sandy soil. Distributed in provinces and regions such as Jiangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Yunnan.

[Chemical composition] The whole plant contains flavonoids: xanthorhamnin, quercetin, and two triterpenoids: taraxacone and taraxacinol. In addition, it also contains inositol, gallic acid, etc.

[Pharmacological action] 1. Antibacterial test: The water decoction of Herba Lycopodii has an inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly bitter, slightly sour, and cool.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, detoxifies, promotes dampness and relieves itching. Used for bacterial dysentery, amoebic dysentery, enteritis, intestinal trichomoniasis, indigestion, bronchitis, pyelonephritis; used externally to treat eczema, dermatitis, and skin itching.

[Usage and Dosage] 0.5-1 liang; appropriate amount for external use; mash the fresh product and apply it to the affected area or decoct it in water for washing.

[Additional prescription] 1. Bacterial dysentery, acute enteritis, indigestion, intestinal trichomoniasis: 2-10 liang of Feiyangcao. Decoction in water and take orally in 2 to 4 times.
