How many bird species are there in my country today?

According to IUCN data, the status of the world's birds has continued to deteriorate since the first comprehensive assessment in 1988, with direct and indirect impacts of human activities being the main influencing factors.

The main threats facing birds include habitat threats, biological invasions, climate change, and illegal hunting.

As of September 2020, there are 11,147 bird species in the world, with more than 1,400 species in my country, making it one of the countries with the most bird species in the world. There are 1,486 bird species classified as threatened, accounting for 13.33% of the global bird population.

Many citizens like to feed cute wild birds with human food when they see them, but they don’t realize that this may be harmful to the birds!

Ah? It turned out that good intentions led to bad results. Why?

First, food that does not suit the birds' diet may cause them to become sick or die; feeding birds will also make them dependent on people, and they may starve when no one feeds them; in addition, close contact with wild birds may cause infection. Therefore, for the health of you and the birds, please do not feed them at will.

Sometimes we see hungry birds on the roadside. Can we take them home and raise them?

If the bird is immature and sometimes has a yellow beak, then you may have picked up a baby bird. Their parents are nearby and will take care of them.

I see! What if you come across a wounded bird?

If a bird is injured or unable to fly, citizens without rescue experience should not touch it without permission. They can contact wildlife protection agencies in time for handling.

Do not interfere with or feed birds at will. So what should we do when we find someone illegally catching or shooting birds?

If you find someone using bird nets or air guns to harm birds, please ensure your own safety and promptly file a complaint with the relevant forestry department or call 110 to report it.
