[Original form] Ribes angustifolia is a deciduous shrub, about 1m tall. Old branches are gray to gray-brown, peeling, and the branchlets are gray-yellow with thorns. The thorns are 9-24cm long and often clustered in 3. Leaves are opposite; petioles are 0.5-3.5cm long, sparsely covered with glandular hairs; leaf blades are round pentagonal or round ovate, palmately 3-lobed, 3-3.5cm wide, with a cordate or cuneate base, lobes with sharp tips and rounded teeth on the edges, and sparse short soft hairs on both sides and edges.
