[Source] It is the root of Rubus xanthocarpus, a plant of the Rosaceae family. Dig up in spring and autumn, remove the fibrous roots, wash and dry.

[Original form] A low semi-shrubby perennial herb with sparsely distributed swollen prickles at the base. The stem is creeping or upward, 10 to 30 cm high. 3-leaf compound leaves, alternate; leaflets oblong or elliptic-lanceolate, terminal leaflets almost twice as large as lateral leaflets, 4-6 cm long, often with 2 shallow fissures near base, margins with irregular serrations, glabrous on both sides, with thorns on lower veins; petioles and rachis with scattered prickles; stipules lanceolate, with sparse teeth. The flowers are small, white, solitary or 2 to 3 in umbels, axillary or terminal; the calyx lobes are ovate, with pointed tips, densely covered with fine spines on the outside and hairy on the inside; there are many stamens and pistils. The aggregate fruit is oblate and orange-yellow.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in gravel beaches in mountain ravines and places with thick soil. It is distributed in Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan and other provinces.
