【Properties】 ① Euphorbia cyrtonema

[Processing] Euphorbia: Pick out impurities, wash with water, soak thoroughly, cut into sections or slices, and dry in the sun. Vinegar euphorbia: Take euphorbia segments or slices, soak and mix with vinegar, put in a pot and cook over low heat until the vinegar is gone, then stir-fry until slightly dry, take out and dry in the sun. (100 jin of Euphorbia, 30-60 jin of vinegar)

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, pungent, cold, poisonous.

[entry into meridians] Enters the lung, spleen and kidney meridians.

【Functions and indications】 It can relieve water retention and promote defecation. Treat edema, dropsy, phlegm, scrofula, carbuncle and swelling.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 0.5 to 1 qian; or made into pills or powder. For external use; decoct in water for fumigation and washing.

[Remarks] There are more than one species of Euphorbia recorded in the "Compendium of Materia Medica" of various dynasties, but most of them are plants of the genus Euphorbia in the Euphorbiaceae family. For example, the euphorbia described in "Shu Materia Medica", the "Chuzhou euphorbia" and "Bingzhou euphorbia" in "Compendium of Materia Medica", and the "euphorbia" in "Illustrated Catalogue of Plant Names and Realities" all have similar morphologies to the euphorbia of the Euphorbiaceae family. In addition, the "Hezhongfu Euphorbia" in "Compendium of Materia Medica" seems to be a leguminous plant; the "Northern Mian Euphorbia" mentioned in "Compendium of Materia Medica" seems to be the current Mian Euphorbia (see the "Wolfsbane" entry); as for the red bud Euphorbia of the Rubiaceae family, it is not included in "Compendium of Materia Medica", but it is currently the most widely used Euphorbia medicinal material.
