Is plantain edible?

Plantain is of course edible, because it can help us improve urinary system diseases and has a good diuretic effect. It can also help relieve cough, asthma and phlegm, fight against colds caused by some bacterial infections, and is also beneficial to the stomach and intestines.

1. Effect on the urinary system: Plantain has a certain diuretic effect, which can increase the water excretion of dogs, rabbits and humans, and increase the excretion of urea, uric acid and sodium chloride. For normal people, taking 10g of Plantago seed decoction orally has a diuretic effect, but the total volume of the decoction and the daily water intake are not recorded, and there is a lack of strict control. There is no obvious diuretic effect when taking plantain seed decoction in normal people and rabbits. Plantago seeds also have no diuretic effect.

2. Antitussive, antiasthmatic and expectorant effects.

3. Anti-pathogenic microbial effect: Plantain water extract has different degrees of inhibitory effect on Trichophyton concentricum, Microsporum woolly tinea, Nocardia asteroides, etc. in test tubes. The plate punch method proved that Staphylococcus aureus was highly sensitive to plantain, Shigella dysenteriae sonnei was moderately sensitive, and Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhi were slightly sensitive.

4. Effects on the stomach and intestines: Giving 0.5g/kg of plantain water extract or infusion to dogs with Pavlov's small stomach and gastric fistula has a bidirectional regulatory effect on gastric juice secretion; it has an antagonistic effect on the excessive secretion of gastric juice caused by rutin and the insufficient secretion of gastric juice caused by adrenaline.

5. Anti-inflammatory effect.

6. Effect on joint capsule: When a small amount of Plantago seed decoction is injected into the rabbit knee joint cavity multiple times, synovial inflammation occurs first, followed by connective tissue hyperplasia. Therefore, it is possible to restore the original tension of the relaxed joint capsule. It can be used clinically for temporomandibular joint subluxation.
