[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of bamboo leaves of the Commelinaceae family.

[Original form] Bamboo leaves are twining herbs, 3-6m long. The stem is thin, 1-2 mm in diameter, and has longitudinal stripes. Often glabrous or with sparse white long hairs on the leaf sheaths. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 3-15cm long; leaf blade is cordate, 4-14cm long, 3-15cm wide, apex is caudate-acuminate, base is cordate, nearly glabrous above, more or less sparsely pubescent below, margins are densely covered with eyelashes. The scorpion-like cymes are often composed of panicles, born on the side branches that emerge from the sheath, with 1-4 flowers; the peduncle is 7-10cm long, the inflorescence is about 5cm long, and is more or less pubescent; the bracts are leaf-like, the upper ones become smaller and ovate with needles; the flowers of the lower inflorescence are bisexual, and the flowers of the upper inflorescence are often male flowers; the flowers are sessile or have short stalks; the sepals are boat-shaped, with acute apex; the petals are white, linear, and slightly longer than the sepals; there are 6 stamens, and the filaments are densely woolly; the ovary is glabrous or sparsely hairy. The capsule is ovate-triangular, 4-5mm long, covered with sparse long hairs, with a beak about 3mm long at the tip and longitudinally cracked; each chamber contains 2 superimposed seeds, which are polygonal. The flowering period is from May to September, and the fruiting period is from July to November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in valleys, thickets, dense forests or grasslands at an altitude of 500-3000m.

It is mainly used for colds and fevers; coughs due to tuberculosis; thirst and irritability; edema; stranguria due to heat; leucorrhea; sore throat; carbuncle and swelling; injuries due to falls and strains; rheumatic bone pain

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g; fresh product 30-60g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash fresh product for application.
