[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of Saussurea pubescens of the Asteraceae family.

[Original form] Saussurea pubescens is a perennial herb, 30-80cm tall. The roots are mostly clustered, thick and long rope-like, rarely fleshy, and dark brown. The stem is erect, with a few branches and covered with spider-like hairs. Basal leaves with long petioles, 5-6cm long, covered with brown short soft hairs; leaf blades broadly ovate to elliptic-obovate, 8-10cm long, 4-6cm wide, acute or obtuse at apex, cuneate or cordate at base, decurrent into narrow wings, with shallow teeth with small tips on margins, green or purplish with short hairs above, grayish white below, densely covered with white wool; stem leaves alternate, sessile, leaf blades linear-lanceolate, gradually narrowing at base, decurrent into wings; uppermost leaves linear, with sparse short brown hairs to glabrous above, grayish white hairs below. Inflorescence capitulate, relatively small, usually several clusters at the top of branches forming a corymb, about 12mm in diameter; pedicels short, bracts oblong, 13-15mm long; with multiple layers of bracts; 5-6 layers of bracts, covered with white silky long hairs, the outer layer ovate, with only a black hard tip at the apex, the inner layer linear-lanceolate; flowers all tubular, 12mm long, corolla 5-lobed, pink or bluish purple, with glands; 5 stamens, polygamous; stigma 2-lobed. Achenes, brown, about 3mm long; pappus dirty white, outer layer rough hairy, inner layer feathery. Flowering period is October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows on hillsides, grasses, roadsides and shady and wet places.

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and relieve pain; detoxify. Bronchitis; migraine; rheumatic pain; rabies bites

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
