[Source] It is the fruit of Pyracantha fortuneana , a plant of the Rosaceae family. The fruits are picked when they are ripe in autumn and dried.

[Original form] Evergreen small shrub, 1 to 3 meters high. Branches usually have thorns, and branchlets have rusty hairs when young. Simple leaves are alternate, sometimes clustered; petioles are short; leaf blades are elliptical or obovate to obovate-rectangular, 1.5-6 cm long, 0.8-1.4 cm wide, with rounded or obtuse apex, or with a small tip, gradually narrowed at the base, with serrated edges, dark green above and light green below; stipules are small and fall off early. Compound cyme; flowers are white, about 1 cm in diameter; sepals are 5 to 6, about 1 mm long, and united with the ovary; petals are alternate with the same number of sepals, obovate, about 3 mm long, rounded or slightly concave at the apex, and shortly clawed at the base; stamens are young, filaments are filiform, anthers are yellow, and there are white villi around the base; there are 5 carpels, separated on the ventral side, 1/2 of which is connected to the calyx tube on the dorsal side, and the stigma is capitate. The pear is spherical, 7 mm in diameter, dark red, with a persistent calyx at the tip and 5 small nuts inside. Flowering period is from June to July. Fruiting period is October.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on sunny hillsides. Distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Henan, Shaanxi and other places.

【Functions and indications】 Strengthens the spleen and eliminates stagnation, promotes blood circulation and stops bleeding. Treats lumps in the abdomen, food accumulation, diarrhea, dysentery, metrorrhagia, and postpartum blood stasis.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5 to 1 liang.
