[Source] It is the whole herb of the Lamiaceae plant. Harvested from July to September.

[Original form] Perennial herb, about 1 meter high. The stem is square and the whole plant is hairy. Leaves are opposite; elliptic-ovate or lanceolate-ovate, 3-8 cm long, 1-3.5 cm wide, gradually pointed or acute at the apex, with coarse serrations on the margin, gradually narrowed at the base, extending down to the petiole; there are transparent glandular dots on the back of the leaves, and short soft hairs on the veins. The inflorescence is paniculate and opposite in leaf axils or terminal at the plant end; bracts are lanceolate; flowers are purple or light red, lip-shaped; calyx is bell-shaped, with 5 teeth and 10 veins; the upper lip of the corolla is reflexed and 4-lobed, and the lower lip is boat-shaped with a narrow base; there are 4 stamens, 2 of which are strong; the style is 2-lobed. The nutlets are broadly obovate, brown, with glandular dots, hairy at the apex, and with a persistent calyx outside. Flowering period is from July to August. The fruiting period is from September to October.

[Habitat distribution] Growing wild in grass on hillsides. Distributed in Hubei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan and other places.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, removes dampness and detoxifies. Treat acute infectious hepatitis, sores, eczema, and skin itching.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5 to 2 liang. For external use: decoct in water and wash.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat acute infectious hepatitis and venomous snake bites: 50 cents to 2 taels of Snakehead. Decoction in water.
