[Alias] Xiaogonglao (Selected Chinese Herbal Medicines in Yunnan)

[Source] The whole plant of the Rubiaceae family . Available all year round. Wash, slice and dry.

[Original form] A short evergreen shrub, 20 to 30 cm tall. The stem is yellowish brown, densely hairy, with obvious stipule scars on the nodes, and grows obliquely upward. The simple leaves are opposite, obovate to oblong, 6-10 cm long, 2.5-4 cm wide, with short pointed apex and cuneate base. The lateral veins are intertwined within the leaf margin, slightly raised on the underside, and covered with hairs, especially on the veins. The petiole is about 1 cm long and covered with hairs. The inflorescence is terminal and the flowers are white. The berries are spherical or oval, as big as peas, and blue when ripe. Flowering period is summer.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in shady and moist places in mixed woods and at the bottom of hillsides. Distributed in Yunnan, Guangxi and other places.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, detoxifies, dispels wind and relieves pain. Treat colds, enteritis, dysentery, rheumatism, bone pain, and bruises.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3 to 5 qian. For external use: grind into powder and apply on skin.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat bacillary dysentery, enteritis, upper respiratory tract infection, rheumatic bone pain, traumatic injuries, and snake bites: 3 to 5 cents of Xiaogonglao, decocted and taken orally. (Selected Yunnan Chinese Herbal Medicines)
