[Properties] This product is cylindrical, small, 3 to 4 mm long and less than 1 mm in diameter. The surface is yellowish brown or dark brown, with many longitudinal ridges. The top is contracted into a thin beak, and the tip expands into a grayish-white ring; the other end is slightly pointed and has traces of growth. The pericarp is thin and fibrous, the seed coat is thin and transparent, and there are 2 cotyledons, which are off-white and slightly oily. It has a peculiar smell and a slightly bitter taste.

[Identification] Cross section of this product: There is one row of exocarp cells, all containing calcium oxalate columnar crystals. The mesocarp has several rows of brown thin-walled cells, which are wrinkled and have unclear boundaries. There are fiber bundles at the ridges, which are composed of dozens of fibers. The fiber walls are thick and lignified. Endocarp cells in 1 row, dark brown. The cells of the seed coat are flat, and the endosperm remains; the thin-walled cells of the embryo are filled with starch grains and fat droplets, and the outermost cells of the cotyledons contain tiny calcium oxalate crystals.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, pungent, neutral; slightly toxic.
