[Original form] Saw-barbed barbel: The body is long and laterally flattened, with a slightly raised back. The whole body is almost rhombus-shaped, and the body length is generally around 40 cm. The head is small and slightly pointed, with an arc-shaped back. The snout is blunt and slightly protrudes forward. The mouth is terminal and horseshoe-shaped; the lips are thick, the upper and lower lips are connected at the corners of the mouth, the post-labial groove is not connected, and the upper jaw is prominent. There are two pairs of whiskers, the front pair is slightly shorter than the back pair. The pharyngeal teeth are in three rows, laterally flattened, and slightly curved at the apex. The scales are large, with 28 to 32 lateral line scales. There are 3, 8, and 9 dorsal fin rays, the starting point of which is behind the base of the pelvic fin. The spines are strong and have rough serrations on the rear edge. There is a flat, forward-facing barb in front of the starting point of the dorsal fin. The pelvic fin is located in front of the origin of the dorsal fin. Anal fin rays 3, 5, tip reaching caudal fin base. The back is slightly black and the belly is white. The leading edge of the scales of most individuals is black. There is a black spot near the base of the tail fin, which is more obvious in young fish. Sometimes the tips of the pelvic and anal fins are slightly black.

[Habitat distribution] It lives in the upper reaches of rivers, and inhabits gaps between rocks and deep caves. The food consists mainly of decaying plant debris and filamentous algae. The spawning period is around April. Distributed in the Yuanjiang River Basin in Yunnan, the upper reaches of the Xijiang River and Hainan.
