[Source] It is the whole herb of Euphorbiaceae . Harvest from June to September and sun-dried.

[Original form] Annual creeping herb, 15 to 25 cm tall, containing white latex. The roots are slender; the branches are dense, soft and lavender, with fine white hairs on the surface. The leaves are small, opposite, in 2 rows, oblong, 5-8 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, with a short tip at the apex, oblique base, sparsely serrated above the middle of the margin, dark green above, with dark purple markings in the center, and covered with white short soft hairs below; the petiole is only 1 mm long or almost sessile; the stipules are linear, usually deeply 3-lobed, with cup-shaped cymes, solitary in the axils of branches and leaves, and are dark red; the involucre is campanulate, 4-lobed; with 4 glands, which are transversely elliptical and have petal-like appendages; the involucre contains several male flowers formed by 1 stamen, with 1 female flower in the middle, with bracteoles, 3 styles, and a stalked ovary hanging outside the involucre. The capsule is triangular-ovoid, about 2 mm in diameter, covered with white short soft hairs, with remnant style at the top. Seeds ovate, angular, smooth. Flowering period is from May to June. The fruiting period is from August to September.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in mountains, roadsides and gardens. Distributed in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and other places.

【Functions and indications】Hemostasis, clearing away dampness and heat, and promoting lactation. It is used to treat jaundice, diarrhea, malnutrition, bloody dysentery, hematuria, metrorrhagia, bleeding due to trauma, insufficient milk, carbuncles and sores.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.3-1 liang (large dose: 2 liang); or cook with chicken liver. For external use: mash and apply.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat sores and swellings on the limbs: 2 liang of dry spotted wormwood. Four to five cents of Red Achyranthes bidentata (Amaranthaceae) and one ounce of Wild Smilax glabra. Decoction in water, add rice wine and brown sugar, and take once in the morning and once in the evening before meals.
