[Original morphology] The body is oval, the male is about 7 mm long, and the female is larger. Black or yellow in color, shiny. The top of the head and the front chest are smooth. The upper lip is often straight wrinkled. The compound eyes are separated into two pairs, the upper pair is suitable for seeing in the air, and the lower pair is suitable for seeing in water. The antennae are short, divided into 9 segments, black in color, but the branches of the second segment are brown. There are three pairs of reddish-brown legs, with long forelimbs and short and laterally flattened middle and hind limbs, which are suitable for swimming. The wing elytra are punctate, with the tail tip protruding slightly beyond the wing.

[Habitat distribution] It lives in ponds, often swims in circles on the water surface, and flies in the air at night. It feeds on small insects. The eggs are laid on aquatic plants. When the larvae grow up, they make cocoons and pupate to become adults.
