[Source] Medicinal material source: The meat of the crocodile short-bodied eel and the Chinese whiskered eel, both of the family Eel.

[Original form] 1. Crocodile-shaped short-bodied eel, with a long cylindrical body and a slightly flattened tail. The average weight is 1-1.5kg, and the largest ones can reach 3kg. The snout is short and pointed. Eyes small, oblong. Mouth wide, with cleft extending far behind eye. The lower jaw is slightly protruding. The teeth are thin and pointed, with 2 rows of maxillary teeth, 1 row of mandibular teeth, and 1 row of vomerine canines. The whiskers on the edge of the upper lip are short and not very obvious. The gill openings are wide. The body is smooth and scaleless, with obvious lateral line holes. The dorsal fin originates slightly above the base of the pectoral fins. The dorsal and anal fins are not continuous, both ending near the tail end. The pectoral fins are short. There is no tail fin and the tail tip is pointed and bald. The back of the body is dark reddish brown, the head is black brown, and the mucus pores and lateral line pores on the head are black. The edges of the dorsal and anal fins are black. Pectoral fins yellowish brown. Ventral side yellowish brown.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: 1. Inhabits nearshore sea areas with silt or muddy bottom. It can dig the soil with the tip of its tail and feed on benthic animals.
