[Source] It is the root of the Ranunculaceae plant Thalictrum lucidum . Dig up in autumn, remove the soil, use fresh or dry.

[Original morphology] Perennial herb, glabrous. The stem is 20 to 50 cm tall and branched. 3-4 times 3-compound leaves; leaflets obovate, nearly round or rhombus, 3-12 mm long, 2-25 mm wide, 3 shallow to 3 deep lobes, lobes ovate or obovate, entire, veins flat or slightly raised; green above, slightly pinkish white below, with short petioles. The compound monochasium inflorescence is corymbose; the pedicel is 0.5-2.8 cm long; the flower diameter is 1-2 cm; the sepals are 4, white, ovate, 3-5 mm long, and caducous early; there are no petals; the stamens are numerous, 5-12 mm long, the filaments are oblanceolate, wider than the anthers; the carpels are 4-13, the style is short, and the stigma is narrowly elliptic. Achenes are ovate, 4 to 6 mm long, with distinct longitudinal ribs, and persistent styles are straight, about 1 mm long.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in hillside shrubs and forest edge grasslands, and is distributed in Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Henan, Anhui, Shanxi, Hebei, Inner Mongolia and Northeast China.

【Nature and flavor】 "Hebei Traditional Chinese Medicine Handbook": "cold in nature, bitter in taste."

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies. Treat red and white dysentery, carbuncle, boil, and eczema.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1 to 3 qian. For external use: grind into powder and sprinkle or apply on affected area.

[Additional prescription] ① For the treatment of red and white dysentery: 3 grams of Horsetail Coptis chinensis and 5 grams of Portulaca oleracea. Decoction in water. (Ningxia Chinese Herbal Medicine Handbook)
