[Source] It is the root or the whole herb with root of Potentilla splendida, a plant of the Rosaceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb. The roots are enlarged, conical or irregularly cylindrical, and purple-brown. The stem is erect and the surface is densely covered with yellow-white hairs. Odd-pinnate compound leaves, basal; petiole 2.4-3.5 cm long, surface covered with white cotton wool; apical leaflet is largest, between large leaflets, there are often 2-4 pairs of small leaflets, small leaflets are obovate to broadly elliptic, with rounded tip and broadly cuneate base. The edges are serrated, dark green on top and white on the bottom, all covered with cotton hair. The inflorescence is terminal; the flowers are yellow, about 2 cm in diameter; the calyx is green, 5-lobed, the lobes are obovate to elliptical, and the epicalyx segments are smaller and 5-lobed. Ovate-lanceolate bell-shaped, covered with yellow-white cotton hairs on both sides; 5 petals, broadly obovate; many male and female pistils, clustered on a white receptacle. Achenes are small, numerous, light brown, and surrounded by persistent calyx. Flowering period: summer and autumn.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on hillsides and roadsides. Distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Tibet.

【Properties and flavors】 ① "Southern Yunnan Materia Medica": "Cold in nature, bitter in taste."

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and reduces inflammation, cools blood and stops bleeding. Treat red and white dysentery, enteritis, stomachache, hemoptysis due to tuberculosis, epistaxis, bloody stool, metrorrhagia, bleeding from trauma, and furunculosis.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5-1 liang; grind into powder, 3-5 fen; or soak in wine. For external use: mash and apply or grind into powder and sprinkle.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat dysentery: one liang of fresh Herba Glehniae chinensis. Add water and cook until done. Put an appropriate amount of brown sugar in a pot, add two taels of wine, light it and burn it, then add the decocted medicine and then take it.
