[Source] It is the rhizome of Scopolamine, a plant of the Solanaceae family . Dig up in spring and autumn, wash and dry.

[Original form] Perennial herb. The rhizome is thick and tuberous. The stem is 30 to 60 cm tall and has scales at the base. The leaves are alternate, oblong, pointed at the tip, cuneate at the base, and have irregular serrations on the edges. The flowers are solitary in the leaf axils, with thin pedicels, drooping; the calyx is bell-shaped, short, and has 5 teeth at the apex; the corolla is broadly bell-shaped, with 5 shallow lobes at the apex, purple-brown; there are 5 stamens, attached to the base of the corolla tube; the ovary is nearly 2-chambered, the style is linear, the stigma is enlarged, and there are many ovules. The capsule is spherical and cracked above the middle. Flowering period is May.

[Habitat distribution] Cultivated in Northeast my country. It grows in grasslands, around balconies, on roadsides, at the foot of mountains, etc.

[Properties] The dried rhizome is nodular, irregularly curved, about 10 cm long and 3 cm in diameter, with a gray-brown and wrinkled appearance; there are sunken stem scars on the upper part of the nodules and thick and short fibrous roots or root scars underneath. The cross section is granular and pinkish white. Odorless, bitter taste.
