1. Why is crane grass so magical that it is loved by mountain people?

Agrimony is a perennial herb that grows wild under forests on hillsides, on roadsides, and along ditches, and is also cultivated artificially. This kind of grass is more common in the Fujian, Jiangnan and Zhejiang areas. Local villagers have an experience that after engaging in heavy physical labor in the fields, especially in the hot summer, many people with poor physical fitness often feel extremely weak, exhausted, and even sweating profusely. If this happens, quickly use 30 grams of herb Agrimony Root, boil it with water, add appropriate amount of brown sugar, stir evenly and drink it, you can immediately relieve the symptoms and restore your strength. Therefore, the villagers affectionately call the crane grass "exhaustion grass".

The efficacy and function of Herba Centifoliae is not only to be taken alone as a decoction to treat fatigue, strain and dry retching, but it can also be used in combination with other drugs to treat diseases. For example, when used with jujube, it can nourish blood and treat blood deficiency and sallow complexion; when used with Codonopsis pilosula, Rehmannia glutinosa, longan meat, etc., it can treat qi and blood deficiency, fatigue, dizziness and vertigo; when used with Angelica sinensis and White Peony Root, it can treat irregular menstruation; when used with Honeysuckle, Taraxacum mongolicum, Viola yedoensis and Chrysanthemum indica, it can treat carbuncle; when used with Sappan wood, peach kernel and rhubarb, it can treat swelling and pain caused by falls. The dosage of fresh grass is 15 to 30 grams each time, decocted in water.

In the United States, Canada, and Europe, it is called Agrimony Root. Agrimony is a plant with apricot-yellow flowers and fruits covered with a layer of velvety hairs. Anyone or any animal that passes by will be infected with its seeds, which then spread throughout the world. The way Agrimony reproduces is to rely on others, so the language of its flower is "coquettishness". Westerners believe that people born under the blessing of this flower language are particularly dependent and lack self-confidence. However, there are many friends of the opposite sex who like this kind of personality.

3. The legendary magical herb and its folk origin story

In ancient times, there were two scholars who went to Beijing to take an imperial examination. On the way, they passed by a beach. It was the height of summer, with the sun blazing brightly in the sky. They were sweating, thirsty and tired. At this time, one scholar had a nosebleed, and the other scholar was in a panic. There was no village in front and no shop behind. Where could he find medicine?

They tried to find quick solutions, using clods of earth and paper to plug the mouth, but it was of no use, and blood started flowing out of the mouth again. At this moment, I suddenly saw a crane holding a piece of grass in its mouth, slowly flying over my head. They thought, if only we could grow wings like the cranes and fly away quickly! They shouted in envy, "Crane, crane, fly slowly, lend us your wings, so we can fly out of this hellhole quickly!"

Unexpectedly, the crane was startled by their shouting, and it opened its mouth, and the weeds it was holding fell out. They joked, "Since you can't borrow your wings, use some wild grass to moisten your throat first." The scholar who was bleeding from the nose hurriedly put the wild grass in his mouth and started chewing it. With the moisture, his throat was no longer dry, and his mouth was no longer thirsty. After a while, the nosebleed stopped. They hurried on their way with joy. Later, they all passed the imperial examination and became seventh-rank county officials. They then sent people to the mountains to look for that kind of wild grass. Doctors' identification tests have proven that it does have the effect of stopping bleeding. To commemorate the crane that brought the herb, it was named "Crane Grass".
