[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of the Asteraceae plant Gnaphalium wilfordii.

[Original morphology] Dogwahua is a one- or two-year herb, 30-50cm tall, sometimes up to 150cm. The main root is fusiform. Stems solitary or in clusters of several, ± coarsely hairy. Leaves are alternate; lower leaves have long petioles, are obovate, 4-13cm long, 0.5-1.5cm wide, obtuse or rounded at the apex, gradually narrowed at the base, entire or sparsely toothed, sparsely hairy or glabrous on both sides, and thin in texture; middle leaves are oblong-lanceolate or linear, smaller, often entire; upper leaves are small and linear. Inflorescence capitula, 3-5cm in diameter, solitary at branch end and arranged in umbel; involucre hemispherical, 7-10mm long, 10-20mm in diameter; involucral bracts in 2 layers, nearly equal in length, inner layer with membranous margin, coarse hairs, often with glandular dots; ligulate flowers about 30, tube about 2mm long, ligules light red or white, oblong strips, 12-20mm long, 2.5-4mm wide 05-6-21 tubular flowers with 5 lobes, 1 of which is longer. Achenes are obovate, flat, 2.5-3mm long, about 1.5mm wide, with thin ribs and densely hairy; the pappus in ligulate flowers is extremely short, white, membranous, or partially reddish and rough hairy; in tubular flowers it is rough hairy, white at first, then reddish, and nearly as long as the corolla. The flowering period is from July to September, and the fruiting period is from August to September.
