[Source] It is a plant of the genus Zornia in the leguminous family, Zornia diphylla (L.) Pers., and the whole plant is used as medicine. Harvested in summer and autumn.

[Original form] Annual or perennial dwarf herb, 20 to 60 cm long. The roots are thick and branched. Stems tufted, glabrous, spreading or prostrate. The leaflets are twin, with two leaf blades growing on the top of a petiole in a herringbone shape, hence the name of herringbone grass or two-leaf herringbone grass; the leaflets are narrowly oblong to lanceolate, thick papery, 5-15 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, the lower leaves are sometimes longer, with a small thorn at the top of the leaf blade, entire margin, sparsely hairy or glabrous on the underside, with black glandular dots; the stipules are ovate-lanceolate, with long ears at the base, and several obvious veins on them. From spring to autumn, the inflorescence is terminal with several flowers in a raceme. There are two large ovate bracts under the flowers, with spurs at the base, which almost cover the entire flower. The calyx is membranous, two-lipped, and has short soft hairs. The papilionate corolla is yellow, with a broad standard petal. There are 10 stamens, and the filaments are fused into a single body. There are two types of anthers, long and short. The ovary is sessile and the style is linear. The pods are linear, with barbed spines, 2-6 nodes, and each node contains one seed.
