[Alias] Small black medicine, Wei Lingxian (Southern Yunnan Materia Medica), black root (Guizhou Folk Medicine), Cao Lingxian (Kunming Folk Commonly Used Herbs), Copper-footed Wei Ling (Selected Chinese Herbal Medicines in Yunnan), Black Wei Ling, Iron-footed Wei Ling (Selected Chinese Herbal Medicines in Simao, Yunnan), Black Cimicifuga, Small Black Root (Yunnan Economic Plants).

[Source] It is the root of the Asteraceae plant Inula japonica . Dig up in autumn, wash, cut into sections and dry in the sun.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 30 to 50 cm high. The rhizome is short. The stem is cylindrical, light red to purple-brown, densely covered with rusty soft hairs. Simple leaves are alternate, broadly lanceolate to obovate-lanceolate, 5 to 6 cm long, about 2 cm wide, with sparse serrations on the edges, and densely covered with rusty soft hairs on both sides. Inflorescence solitary at branch top; flowers yellow. The bracts are in several rows. Achenes have 4 to 5 ribs and thorny pappus. Flowering period is summer.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on hillsides, sparse woods, and roadside grass. Distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou and other places.

【Nature and flavor】 ① "Southern Yunnan Materia Medica": "Tastes bitter and warm in nature."

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind and cold, eliminate stagnation, and dredge meridians. It is used to treat cold pain in the abdomen, abdominal distension due to food accumulation, indigestion, stomachache, physical weakness and sweating, cold and cough, rheumatism and athlete's foot.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: decoct in water, 3-5 liang; fry or stew meat with wine.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat cold attacking the heart, cold face and back, cold pain in the abdomen, hard lumps (abdominal distension): 3 qian of Wei Ling Xian, 3 qian of Xiang Bai Zhi, 4 qian of Di Yu, 5 qian of Xing Ye Fang Feng, 2 qian of Evodia rutaecarpa, 5 qian of Teaspoon Grass, 1 qian of Guo Shan Long (fried with wine). Boil it with two pounds of good wine, drink two cups of it while it is hot to relieve pain. (Compendium of Materia Medica in Southern Yunnan)

[Remarks] This product is used as a substitute for Clematis in Yunnan.
