[Source] It is the root or root bark of the Rutaceae plant.

[Original morphology] Small tree, 1 to 3 meters high, with twigs, petioles, leaf veins, rachis and flower branches covered with extended short soft hairs. Odd-pinnate compound leaves; leaflets 5 to 11, alternate, petiolate, sickle-lanceolate, 4 to 7 cm long, 1.8 to 3 cm wide, pointed at apex, rounded or obtuse base, extremely asymmetrical, with sparse teeth on margin. The corymb panicle is terminal; the flowers are small and numerous, white; there are 5 sepals, less than 1 mm long; there are 5 petals, oblong, about 4 mm long, and hairy on the outside; there are 10 stamens, alternating long and short, and the anthers are broadly elliptic; the ovary is hairy, 5-chambered, and the stigma is capitate. The berry is oval or obovate, about 1 cm long, yellow or scarlet when ripe, with glandular dots on the surface; there are 1 to 2 seeds. The flowering period is from December to April of the following year. Fruiting period is July to August.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in wilderness and jungle. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, pungent, cool.

[Functions and indications] Treat swelling and pain caused by falls, fractures, sprains, rheumatism and sore throat.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3 to 5 qian; or soaked in wine. For external use: grind into powder and stir-fry with wine for application.

[Additional prescription] ① For treating chest pain, bruises and sprains: decocted 3 to 5 qian of dried root of Datura striata in water and taken orally. (Color Atlas of Commonly Used Chinese Herbal Medicines)
