[Source] It is the whole herb of Solanaceae . Generally, the whole grass is cut between May and June or September to November, washed and dried.

[Original form] Perennial climbing semi-shrub. The stem is up to 5 meters long, woody at the base and herbaceous and hairy above. Leaves are alternate; the upper leaves are mostly halberd-shaped with three lobes or pinnate-shaped with many lobes; the lower leaves are rectangular or ovate-rectangular, with a heart-shaped base, a pointed tip, entire margin, 4-9 cm long, 2-5 cm wide, bright green above, lighter below, with scattered fine hairs on both sides, denser along the veins; the petiole is 2-3.5 cm long and has fine hairs. The cymes grow at the top of branches or laterally opposite to leaves; the pedicels, pedicels and flowers are densely covered with long soft hairs, and the pedicels are slender; the calyx is funnel-shaped, with 5 ovate sepals; the corolla is white, with 5 lobes, which are reflexed downward from the base, 5 to 6 mm long, ovate or rectangular-lanceolate, with a pointed apex; there are 5 stamens, inserted at the mouth of the corolla tube, and the filaments are short and flat. Base fused; pistil 1, ovary ovate, style slender, stigma hemispherical. The berry eggs are spherical, green at first, then turn red to black, and are 6 to 10 mm in diameter. The seeds are white and oblate. Flowering period is from September to October. Fruiting period is November.

[Habitat distribution] Grown wild on roadsides, in mountains or bushes. It is distributed in most parts of the country. Mainly produced in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Anhui and other places.

[Properties] The dry stem is cylindrical, about 2 to 7 mm in diameter, yellow-green to dark brown in appearance, densely covered with grayish-white hairs. On thicker stems, the hairs are very few or absent, with longitudinal wrinkles and a shiny appearance. It is hard and brittle, with a light green cross section, fibrous, and a hollow in the center. The leaves are wrinkled and curled, densely covered with hairs, and the petioles are about 1 to 2 cm long. Some have light yellow to dark red fruits. The best ones are dry, tender, green-leafed, seedless and weed-free.

[Chemical composition] The whole plant of Solanum lyratum contains bioalkaloids, and the heart stems that never rot contain steroidal bioalkaloids, including tomatine, solanine and shuyangquanine. The leaves also contain relatively high levels of α-solanine and β-solanine, less solanine and trace amounts of solanine. The main alkaloids among these are solanine or tomatine; β-solanine has the effect of resisting mouse sarcoma-180.

[Pharmacological action] Anti-tumor effect: Shuyangquan and red dates are mixed in a ratio of 1:1 to make decoction and syrup, which have inhibitory effects on the solid and ascites types of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma and spindle cell sarcoma in mice. It is clinically effective for cervical cancer, but the recurrence rate is low. Further use of 40, 80, 120 g/kg/day of decoction and small dose increasing method of administration of equivalent raw drugs has no obvious effect against the solid type of mouse spindle cell sarcoma, the solid type of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma and sarcoma 180, but the alcohol extract has an inhibitory effect on mouse sarcoma 180, and its active ingredient is β-solanine.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, bitter, cold.

【Functions and indications】Relieve heat, eliminate dampness, dispel wind and detoxify. Treat malaria, jaundice, edema, gonorrhea, rheumatic joint pain, erysipelas, and furunculosis.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: decocted in water, 5-8 qian (1-2 liang for fresh); or soaked in wine. For external use: decoct in water for washing, mash and apply, or mash and juice for application.

【Note】 "Mindong Materia Medica": "People with weak constitution and no dampness and heat should not use this medicine."

[Additional prescription] ① For the treatment of the initial stage of jaundice: take equal parts of Rhizoma Cyperi, Herba Artemisiae Scopariae, Herba Capillaris, Herba Trillii Folium and Herba Plantaginis. Decoction with white wine. (Bai Cao Mirror)

[Clinical application] Treatment of acute icteric hepatitis: Take the whole herb of Solanum lyratum to make a 100% injection solution for intramuscular injection. For children under 2 years old, take 2 ml each time, twice a day; for children aged 4 to 12 years old, take 4 ml each time, 2 to 3 times a day; for children aged 12 years and above, take 4 ml each time, 3 to 4 times a day. 31 cases were treated, 23 were cured (subjective symptoms and positive signs disappeared, urine trichosanthes test and liver function returned to normal), and 8 were improved (subjective symptoms improved, urine trichosanthes test was normal, and liver function improved). Clinical observations show that Blepharitis Injection has good effects on reducing jaundice, improving symptoms and lowering transaminase, but has poor effects on reducing musk turbidity, zinc turbidity and brain floccules.
