[Source] Medicinal material source: The leaves of Hibiscus schizoptalus (Mast.) Hook.f., a plant of the Malvaceae family.

[Original form] Chandelure hibiscus is an evergreen upright shrub, up to 3m tall. The twigs are slender, often drooping, smooth and hairless. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 1-2 cm long, stellately pubescent on the upper side; stipules are subulate, about 2 mm long, often falling early; leaf blades are elliptic or oblong, 4-7 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, with short pointed or short acuminate tips, obtuse or broadly cuneate bases, serrated margins, and glabrous on both sides. Flowers are solitary in the leaf axils at the branch ends. The pedicels are thin, drooping, 8-14cm long, smooth and glabrous or with cilia, and with nodes in the middle; the bracteoles are 5, very small, lanceolate, 1-2mm long, and ciliated; the calyx is tubular, about 1.5cm long, sparsely covered with fine hairs, with 5 shallow teeth, often split on one side; the petals are 5, red, about 5cm long, deeply and finely cracked into tassels, recurved upwards; the stamen column is long and prominent, drooping, 9-10cm long, and glabrous; the style branches are 5, glabrous. The capsule is oblong, about 4 cm long and 1 cm in diameter. Flowering season all year round.

[Habitat distribution] It is introduced for cultivation in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi and Yunnan in my country. Native to tropical East Africa.
