[Original form] Sweet pea is a perennial herb, 80-100cm tall. Stem nearly erect or obliquely ascending, cylindrical. Leaves are erect; stipules are large, semi-arrow-shaped, entire or slightly serrated at the lower edge; leaves are even-pinnate, with 6-8 leaflets, the top of the upper rachis often has divergent tendrils, the lower rachis is mostly a single tendril or long thorn-like; leaflets are ovate or elliptic, sometimes rhombic ovate or oblong ovate, 4-10cm long, 1.5-6cm wide, obtuse or rounded at the apex, with short thorn tips, rounded or broadly cuneate at the base, glabrous on both sides, pale beneath; veins are reticulate. The racemes are axillary, usually with more than 10 flowers; the calyx is bell-shaped, the calyx teeth are triangular to conical, the flowers are yellow, 1.6-2cm long, there are 10 stamens, dissociated, and the ovary is glabrous. The pods are linear, swollen on both sides, 6-10cm long, about 5mm wide, and hairless. Seeds are numerous, nearly spherical, about 3mm in diameter. The flowering period is June-July, and the fruiting period is August-September.
