Inflorescence compound racemose, gray pubescent; flowers bisexual; sepals 5, petal-like, caducous; stamens numerous; carpels 3-5, separate, smooth and glabrous, with short petioles. There are 3 to 5 bone protrusions. The flowering period is from July to August, and the fruiting period is from August to September.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in bushes under forests. It is mainly produced in Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang.

[Properties] The rhizome is irregularly cylindrical, with many short branches forming nodules, 8~20cm long, 1.5~2.5cm in diameter, dark brown or black brown on the surface; there are multiple stem scars on the upper side, 1.5~3cm long, 0.5~2.5cm in diameter, the pith has decayed into a cavity, and the wood rays of the xylem have radial cracks. It is hard and light, with a yellowish-white cross section. The taste is slightly bitter.
