[Source] It is the tuber of plants such as Dioscorea zingiberensis, Dioscorea zingiberensis , Dioscorea zingiberensis or Dioscorea gracilis , etc., which belong to the Dioscoreaceae family. It can be harvested in spring and autumn. After digging out, wash and remove the fibrous roots, slice and dry.

[Chemical composition] The rhizome of Dioscorea paniculata mainly contains dioscin, and also contains dioscin fine, diosgenin A (the aglycones of the above saponins are all diosgenin), Dioscorea paniculata saponin, jonoside, tokosapogenin-1-glucoside and other saponins. Diosgenin is the insecticidal ingredient in Dioscorea sibiricum. The aglycones isolated from the rhizome include: diosgenin, with a content of 1.2% (produced in Jiangsu), 2.1% (produced in Zhejiang), and 1.35% (produced in Yixing, Jiangsu); tokagenin, with a content of 0.06% (produced in Jiangsu), 0.09% (produced in Zhejiang), and 0.32% (produced in Yixing, Jiangsu); yamgenin, with a content of 0.04% (produced in Kangsu), and 0.10% (produced in Zhejiang); yonogenin; kaugasapogenin and igagenin. A small amount of 25-iso-spirosteroid-3,5-diene was also isolated, which may be the dehydration product of diosgenin during hydrolysis. Jonosapogenin, tokosapogenin and kogai sapogenin were separated from the aerial parts. Except for the seeds, all the above-ground parts contain considerable amounts of free jonogenin and tokogenin. There are traces of free diosgenin in the underground part, and the rest become saponins. The seeds contain tokasapogenin, and almost all of its aglycones exist as saponins. Diosgenin, jonogenin, tokogenin and gaisapogenin were isolated from the female flowers. Diosgenin, jonogenin, tokogenin and kogagenin were isolated from the male flowers.

[Pharmacological action] Dioscin or diosgenin glycosides contained in the rhizomes of Dioscorea serrata have insecticidal effects. Dioscin and claserin also have antifungal effects.

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind and eliminate dampness. It is used to treat stubborn rheumatism, pain in the waist and knees, difficulty urinating, stranguria, spermatorrhea, and damp-heat sores.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3 to 5 qian; or made into pills or powder.

【Note】 People with kidney deficiency and yin deficiency should not take this medicine.

[Additional prescription] ① For treating deficiency of vital energy, cold in the lower part of the body, turbid white urine, excessive frequency, oily swirl surface, irregular sheen, clear swirl bottom, swirl like paste; or frequent urination, although not turbid white urine, can also be treated: Alpinia oxyphylla, Chuanbixie, Acorus gramineus, and Linderae scabra, equal parts. Grind into fine powder. Take three grams each time, add one and a half cups of water and a pinch of salt, boil together until seven parts are left, drink while warm before meals.
