Side Effects of Epimedium

Side Effects of Epimedium

I think some people may be familiar with epimedium, but of course some people may still be relatively unfamiliar with it. In fact, epimedium is a relatively common Chinese herbal medicine. Everyone knows that Chinese medicine is a purely natural medicine made from plants. Compared with Western medicine, Chinese medicine has fewer side effects. I believe everyone knows that drinking Chinese medicine is to treat certain diseases, so what is the effect of epimedium?

Epimedium has certain medicinal value and is also effective for insomnia patients. It is mostly used to strengthen the body, replenish yang, and so on. We have talked about so many functions of epimedium, but in fact, epimedium also has certain side effects. So what are the side effects of epimedium? Let me tell you what the side effects of epimedium are.

① Treat hemiplegia, paralysis of hands and feet, and numbness of skin: grind one pound of Xianlingpi into fine pieces, put it in a raw silk bag, put it in a dry container, soak it with two buckets of ash-free wine, and seal it with thick paper to prevent air from passing through. Apply it for three days in spring and summer, and five days in autumn and winter. Drink it warm every day at your leisure, and always feel tipsy but not too drunk. (Sheng Hui Fang)

② Treat pain caused by wind, which comes and goes at random: one liang of Xianlingpai, one liang of Weilingxian, one liang of Chuanxiong, one liang of Guixin, and one liang of Xanthium sibiricum. Grind the above medicines into powder. Take it each time, regardless of time, mix one qian of it with warm wine. (Xianlingpi Powder from Shenghuifang)

③For treating blurred vision and cataracts: take equal parts of Xianlingpi and Shengwanggua (the red one of Trichosanthes kirilowii). Grind into powder, take one coin of it with tea, twice a day. (The Record of the Holy Spirit)

④Treat toothache: Grind any amount of Epimedium into coarse powder, boil it into a decoction and rinse your teeth. ("Miraculous Prescription" Gu Ya San)

Those with Yin deficiency and easily activated Yang fire should not take it.

① "Compendium of Materia Medica" says: "Dioscorea is its messenger."

② "Rihuazi Bencao": "Ganoderma lucidum is used as a messenger. It is good for making wine."

③ "Ben Cao Jing Shu": "Easy erection of weak yang, constant nocturnal emission, red stool and dry mouth, strong yang without impotence and should be avoided."

After reading the above article, I think those who knew a little about Epimedium at the beginning should know more about it now; those who didn't know about Epimedium at first should have known about it now, right? Chinese medicine must be bitter when taken orally. As the saying goes, good medicine tastes bitter but is good for the disease. Of course, Epimedium is still a bit bitter and astringent when used as a Chinese medicine for treating diseases.
