Can Panax notoginseng be eaten?

The herb Panax notoginseng, as a traditional Chinese medicine, has a very wide range of uses. In many places, Panax notoginseng is artificially cultivated. The main part of Panax notoginseng used as a medicinal material is the rhizome. So, can Panax notoginseng grass be eaten? Actually, it is possible. Although Panax notoginseng does not have so many medicinal effects, it can still be used. But everyone should also note that not everyone is suitable for Panax notoginseng.

Panax notoginseng, the name of a Chinese medicinal herb. This product is the leaves or whole herb of Panax notoginseng, a plant of the Asteraceae family. It can be harvested during July and August when it is growing vigorously, or harvested as needed. Functions and indications: promoting blood circulation, stopping bleeding, and detoxifying. It is used to treat bruises, epistaxis, hemoptysis, hematemesis, mastitis, unknown swellings, and insect stings. "Baicao Jing": Treats breast abscess, hemostasis of wounds, throat tinea, moth disease, and cough. "Hunan Pharmacopoeia": Promotes blood circulation and stops bleeding, clears away heat and detoxifies.

Perennial erect herb with fleshy perennial roots. The stem is fleshy, more than 1 meter high, purple-red when young, and multi-branched when grown. The surface is smooth with fine edges. Basal leaves are numerous, clustered; serrated or pinnate, dark green above, purple-green below, with short hairs on veins on both sides; stem leaves are alternate, large, 8-24 cm long, 5-10 cm wide, pinnate, lobes ovate to lanceolate, margin shallowly lobed or sparsely serrated, apex shortly pointed and acuminate, both sides of the leaf blade are smooth and hairless; petiole is 1-3 cm long; stipules are a pair, 3-5 shallowly lobed. Inflorescence is arranged in an umbel, sparsely distributed at the stem tip, 1.5-2 cm long; involucre is green, plucked or campanulate, bracts are linear-lanceolate, about 13-16 mm long, margin membranous, translucent, 10-12 pieces are arranged in a row, with several bracteoles attached to the outside of the base; corolla is tubular, yellow, 6-lobed, lobes are linear to ovate, 7-10 mm long, with pointed apex; stamens are 5, the anther is fused; pistil is 1, ovary is inferior, stigma is bifurcated, awl-shaped, with short hairs. Achenes are linear, small, ridged on the surface, brown, with numerous white pappus. Flowering period is from September to October.

④Treat unknown swelling and infection: Notoginseng leaves, Pueraria lobata root bark. Mash the wool and apply it on the skin. (Sichuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Records)

⑤To treat poisonous insect stings: apply the juice of Panax notoginseng leaves to the affected area (Records of Medicinal Herbs Collection in Lingnan).

⑥To treat the pain caused by the hair of the willow sticky louse entering the flesh: mash the leaves of Panax notoginseng and apply it on the affected area. (Collection of Secret Prescriptions)

⑦ Treat acute and chronic convulsions: Mash the juice of Panax notoginseng (use leaves in spring and summer, use roots in autumn and winter) for one hour, mix it with water and wine and drink it internally. (Yanlutang Prescription)
