Scutellaria baicalensis slices: remove impurities, cook in boiling water for 10 minutes, take out, simmer thoroughly, cut into thin slices, and dry; or steam for half an hour, take out, cut into thin slices, and dry (be careful to avoid exposure to the sun). This product is a circular or irregular thin slice with a yellow-brown to tan outer skin and a yellow-brown or yellow-green cut surface with radial texture. The tests under the above [Identification] (1) and (2) should show the same results; and the content of baicalin (C21H18O11) should not be less than 8.0% as determined by the method under the above [Content Determination].

Wine Scutellaria:

Take the Scutellaria baicalensis slices and stir-fry until dry according to the wine roasting method (Appendix Ⅱ D). This product is a round or irregular thin slice with a brown outer skin and a yellow-brown cut surface. It has radial texture, slightly burnt spots, and some of the center parts are brown. Determined according to the method under the above [Content Determination], the content of baicalin shall not be less than 8.0%.

【Clinical Application】

1. Used for damp-heat fever, chest tightness, thirst without desire to drink, damp-heat diarrhea, jaundice and other symptoms. For fever caused by damp-heat, it can be used in combination with talcum powder, white cardamom seed, Poria cocos, etc.; for diarrhea and abdominal pain caused by damp-heat, it can be used together with white peony root, kudzu root, licorice, etc.; for jaundice caused by accumulation of damp-heat, it can be used together with artemisia capillaris, gardenia, and lophatherum gracile, etc.

2. Used for fever, high fever, thirst, lung heat, cough, excessive heat, bleeding, and heat-toxic sores. For treating high fever due to fever, it is often used together with Coptis chinensis, Gardenia jasminoides, etc.; for treating lung heat cough, it can be used together with Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Morus alba bark, etc.; for treating blood heat and delirium, it can be used together with Rehmannia glutinosa, Paeonia suffruticosa, Platycladus orientalis, etc.; for treating heat and toxic sores, it can be used together with Honeysuckle, Forsythia suspensa, etc. In addition, this product has the effect of clearing heat and calming the fetus.
