How to wash fresh ginseng

How to wash fresh ginseng

Although the price of ginseng has dropped now, it is still a relatively expensive Chinese medicinal material. Many times, the ginseng we buy has been dried in the sun. Due to the lack of moisture, the ginseng can be stored longer. But sometimes, we also receive fresh ginseng with dirt on it. At this time, if you want to eat ginseng, you need to know how to clean it.

Today I will introduce several cleaning methods:

1. Cleaning method with light salt water: Soak the ginseng in light salt water for about an hour. After soaking, rinse it with clean water to remove impurities and chemical residues on the surface of the ginseng.

2. Soaking method in clean water: Soak the ginseng in clean water for about 5 minutes, then rinse it 1-3 times with clean water. It is mainly used to clean the dust on the surface of ginseng and the remaining soil before processing and drying.

3. Rice washing water cleaning method: Most people may throw away rice washing water as waste water, but rice washing water is acidic water and contains ingredients that reduce residual pesticides and fertilizers. Soak the ginseng in rice washing water for about 15 minutes, then take it out, wash it and it is ready to eat.

4. Baking soda cleaning method: Baking soda is a common item in the kitchen and should be available in most households, or it can be replaced by alkali. Use it to mix soda water or alkaline water, the concentration does not need to be high. Soak the ginseng for about 5 minutes. Then take it out and wash it several times before use.

Note: When cleaning ginseng, try to avoid using iron containers.

Cleaning tips:

1. Before using dried ginseng, you can choose to expose it to the sun for 1-3 days. Because the ultraviolet rays in sunlight have the function of sterilization and promoting the oxidation and decomposition of pesticide residues, it can be used as a method of disinfection.

2. Many people are accustomed to peeling ginseng before eating it. If the ginseng skin is not rusted or moldy, do not peel it, because the ginseng skin is rich in nutrients such as ginsenosides. Never do something like buying the casket and returning the pearl.

3. When cleaning fresh ginseng, be careful not to use tools with hard textures such as steel wool, steel brush, and hard bristle brush. This will damage the ginseng's skin and iron will affect the nutritional content of ginseng, so ginseng should not be used with iron. If you need to clean it, you can choose a soft-bristled toothbrush, a soft towel, etc.
