Effects of Sodium Citrate

Effects of Sodium Citrate

There is an ingredient list on the outer packaging of every food. I don’t know if you have noticed that many ingredient lists contain sodium citrate. Sodium citrate can be used as a food additive to flavor food and make it more delicious and taste better. Sodium citrate itself also has certain nutrients. Adding it to food can increase the nutrition of the food. Sodium citrate is a food additive allowed for use by the country.

Sodium citrate is widely used in food, beverage and spice industries as an acidulant, flavoring agent, preservative, buffer and chelating agent. It is used as antioxidant, plasticizer and detergent in the chemical industry, cosmetics industry and detergent industry. Used as an anticoagulant in the pharmaceutical industry.

Sodium citrate, also known as sodium citrate, is an organic compound and a sodium salt with the chemical formula Na3C6H5O7. It appears as white to colorless crystals and has a soapy smell. It is easily soluble in water and glycerin, but hardly soluble in alcohols and other organic solvents. It is deliquescent and weatherable in hot air.

It is used as a flavoring agent and stabilizer in the food and beverage industry; as an anticoagulant, expectorant and diuretic in the pharmaceutical industry; in the detergent industry, it can replace sodium tripolyphosphate as an auxiliary agent for non-toxic detergents; it is also used in brewing, injections, photographic chemicals and electroplating, etc.

Lemon juice contains a large amount of citric acid. Citric acid combines with calcium ions to form a soluble complex. It can alleviate the effect of calcium ions in promoting blood coagulation, and can prevent and treat hypertension and myocardial infarction. So it can play an anticoagulant role.

When fresh blood is collected clinically, some sterilized sodium citrate or sodium oxalate needs to be added to prevent blood coagulation, so sodium citrate and sodium oxalate are called anticoagulants.

Sodium citrate is a chemical substance after all. Many people worry that it will be harmful to the human body after eating. In fact, sodium citrate is an alkaline substance. Regular consumption can balance the body's acidity and alkalinity, keeping the body in a normal pH range. The alkalinity is also very beneficial for relieving fatigue after exercise. Sodium citrate is edible.
