Evergreen woody vine, 2.5~4 meters long. Branchlets brown or purple-brown, with obvious lenticels. Petiole 1.5~3 cm long; leaf blade oblong-lanceolate, obovate-lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, leathery; 5~13 cm long, 2~6 cm wide, acuminate or pointed at the apex,

The base is cuneate, with sparsely serrated margins or sometimes the entire lower margin; dark green and shiny above, light green below; 5 to 7 pairs of lateral veins. Flowers solitary in leaf axils; dioecious; pedicels slender, flowers drooping; perianth yellow, 8-17 pieces, 8-13 cm long, 4-10 mm wide, arranged in 3 whorls,

The outer whorl is smaller, ovate to elliptical, while the inner whorl is larger, oblong to broadly obovate; the stamen group is spherical, with 30 to 70 stamens and extremely short filaments; the pistil group is elliptical, with 40 to 60 carpels and a disc-shaped stigma. The aggregate fruit is spherical, 1.5~3.5 cm in diameter, and red or dark blue when ripe. There are 2 to 3 seeds, which are kidney-shaped, light gray-brown and shiny. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from September to December.
